What I really like about MLP, is that there are so many different characters that are equally as amazing,so there’s something for pretty much everyone! So truly every pony can be best pony.

I’ve been asked why I like AJ best before, but it’s been a while since I answered it, so here we go! Random things that come to mind when I think about AJ:

1. Applejack is dependable and hardworking, two traits that I greatly admire. I myself am not too dependable and I’m rather lazy, so I try to be a better person. So basically she’s a bit of a rolemodel for me.
   
2. I absolutely love strong female characters. No matter what franchise.
   
3. She’s the only pony who wants to attend the Gala in Season 1 not for personal gain, but to help her family. But she’s also the first pony who offers to give up her ticket when she sees how uncomfortable it makes Twilight to chose one of her friends.
4. She’s incredibly supportive, always encouraging all of her friends. Sometimes even after the other friends have given up on them, like with Fluttershy when the group travels up the mountain to confront the dragon.
   
5. She doesn’t hesitate a second to risk her life to save Spike from the Timberwolves, even after she gets trapped, the only thing she cares about is getting Spike to safety.
   
6. Her accent is incredibly cute.
   
7. I really love her colors, orange is my favorite color.
   
8. Freckles.
   
9. She wears a hat!
   
10. She’s the only one to apologize to Twilight after she turned against her during the wedding.
    
11. She offered to go win a competition to help raise money for Ponyville, even tho nobody expected her to. And when she didn’t win the competition, she decided to took a job to make money, because she made a promise.
    
12. She would never cheat, not even when her entire livelihood was at stake.
    
13. Back during Season 1 and 2 she didn’t have as much screentime as the other mane six, making her kinda the underdog and people didn’t like her as much as the other ponies, which in turn just made me like her more.
    
14. Similarly Applejack is (even to this day) often left out of official merchandise. She’s the only mane six pony that wasn’t in this year’s McDonald’s Happy Meal toys, even tho three background characters where available too. Similar things happened in earlier years. Also a lot of the time when you see some official merchandise like a mug or a bedsheet, Applejack is missing. She really got the short end of the stick until the amazing Sweet Apple Acres toyline was released a few months ago. 5 years after the show first aired. Applejack seems to be underappreciated, which I try to balance out a bit by gushing about her a lot and drawing her a lot, I guess?
    
15. I remember back in the days, porn of Applejack was super rare. That’s one of the reasons why I started drawing her a lot, to overcompensate for people who don’t like her as much. Nowadays pictures of AJ are not that rare anymore, but I never lost my love for her, so I just keep drawing what I love, even tho it might not be “needed” as much anymore.
    
16. Apples!
    

So yeh, for some she might be worst pony or background pony, for some she’s best pony. But in the end, she’s a better person than I could ever be. And that’s why I like her so much.

Ok, so, back in 2014 I found a random link that said dolphin’s genitalia and teats are all like hidden in one single fold of skin and posted this info on my tumblr cause I thought it was weird and hilarious that the teats are literally in the same spot as the anus and the vagina, makes for awkward nursing.

Anyways, turned out that this info was wrong, and that female dolphins have the teats in two separate folds next to the the genital skin fold, and some of my followers corrected me and educated me and I got a lot of super interesting (and weird) info about dolphins, full with detailed diagrams and photographs, which I ended up posting. It was amazing. And I’m sure I mentally scarred some of the people who were just following me for horse smut. Sorry!

And so a day later I decided to put my newfound knowledge to use and drew my first and only cartoon dolphin smut!

I’m torn between being upset at that bad pun and trying not to laugh at it.

Yes, I’ll stop drawing any pony whatsoever and cancel all open projects and commissions because I’m suddenly in love with another cartoon character besides Applejack! It’s all over, guys. Closing the gates of pony smut. I’m RatofJudy from now on!

Nah, of course not, don’t worry! <3 The pony posts weren’t halted when I liked Blue from Jurassic Park either. Or random fox OC early last year. Or feral rats from not too long ago. Or that weird phase where I was into dolphins…

Just means that I’ll probably doodle her once or twice while I find some free time to do so in between all the pony pics. Speaking of which, I’ll have a new pony pic ready to post tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Oh yeh, I definitely want to redraw some of my older pictures! A full scale reimagination of some of my old pieces sounds fun. Edits not so much.

Sadly I’m quite busy with a lot of projects and commissions that are overdue and need to get done. But it would be cool to do a redraw in April, I drew my first pony picture in April 2011 (even tho I didn’t get serious about drawing until 2013). So it would be a nice anniversary thing. I’ll see what I can do!

I’d have trouble deciding which picture to redraw, though. There are so many that I like and would love to see done better!

Yeh, I noticed! It’s been a problem of mine for a long while now, it’s hard breaking out of my comfort zone, but I’m trying. It doesn’t help that there are only so many ways to show off genitals, haha, but yeah, I definitely need to push myself more. I’m working on a big comic and I’m trying lots of different angles and poses there!

I’ll try to draw more variation in the future!

I do think furry and pony are a subset of the same general idea and very much alike, even tho a lot of furries (and bronies alike) will have an aneurism when I say that, haha. But yes, people have argued in circles about this since the beginning of time.

Anyways, I also think Anon was talking about the Anthro comic! I’m not too much of a fan of Anthro myself, preferring feral/clop stuff. But I know there are a lot of people who like it, and really, only one out of seven comics is Anthro, if someone really doesn’t like it, it’s not too difficult to just not look at that one comic. I mean ignoring 80% of content that absolutely caters to someone’s taste because the other 20% doesn’t sounds like an overreaction. 

But I do understand not wanting to support something that contains things you don’t agree with. After all, voting with our wallets is something very important that everyone can (and absolutely should!) do. But the message felt a bit self-entitled. Like, it’s okay to not support something, but why send a message about it, it’s not like the maker of the pack is going to censor the pack just to pander to one person. That would be silly. Anon just wanted to be a dick.

You mean get rid of everything in the pack?

I really like the stabilizer feature in sai, plus it has most of the useful tools other programs have. I wish I could type in it tho, and I miss some filters and everything from photoshop, so I switch back between sai and Photoshop if I need to do something that Sai can’t handle.

I tried Manga Studio, too, and I liked it, it has some very interesting features but in the end I was too comfortable with sai to change. I personalized my sai a lot, pretty much all the brushes are individualized, I put a lot of time into arranging hotkeys, settings and everything. I’m very comfortable using sai, and I think that’s the most important thing about choosing the tool of your trade.

It doesn’t matter too much which program you chose, what matters is that you can make yourself feel comfortable using it. And I’m sure a lot is just getting accustomed to the program. I don’t think any program is inherently better than another. But it helps that sai has the great stabilizer and a lot of convenient features and is relatively cheap. I think that’s what makes it popular. While photoshop is amazing and does great things, most of its features won’t be needed on a daily basis by the average artist.

I use an Intuos 5 nowadays, I used a very cheap no name brand when I started out, and that did its job well enough. Even tho it was really small. For a beginning artist, I would recommend nothing too expensive, but get something that’s not too small, because otherwise you’ll have to re-learn how to draw on a bigger space if you upgrade. 

I heard monoprice tablets are pretty good and cheap. But make sure to research them, I heard they don’t like two monitor setups. I do like Wacom, their drivers are insane and there’s a small chance the driver will die every time you look angry at your tablet, other than that I’ve been very happy with my Intuos, it took a lot of abuse over the years and I like how it feels. I also heard good things about the Bamboo, Wacom’s beginners level tablets, too. So I would probably go with a Bamboo. But in the end if you don’t have too much income to spare for a tablet and you just want to draw, get whatever you can afford. Any tablet is better than no tablet. Any drawing is better than no drawing!

My advice for new artists: Draw. Keep drawing. Don’t stop drawing. Every day!

Yeh, they only use “he” and “it” in the movie! There were a few interviews, before the movie was released, that implied and once even outright stated by one of the producer that BB-8 is a girl. A couple of news outlets picked up on that and reported it. Then the closer it came to the movie release, the more conflicting info was out there. Some staff members of the movie called BB he, others said she but the majority referred to BB as male. And I’m pretty sure it’s canon now that BB is indeed male, just like R2. I remember JJ saying that they started out with BB as a girl but the longer they worked with it, the more they saw BB as a boy.

But it became such a big thing apparently, that multiple real life and internet media outlets reported on the “issue”, asking if BB is male or female and how important it is that she’s female (actual quote from The Guardian). Reporters started asking actors what they thought BB’s gender is, it became one of those questions that they asked each one of the main characters. Oscar Isaac (Poe) replied that he likes BB but didn’t check under the chassis, haha. And there was even a reporter on the London red carpet premiere, that asked the real life model of BB directly if it’s a boy or a girl. It moved it’s head down and beeped sadly in response.

Anyways, it was funny and bizzare, so many newspapers and other outlets were suddenly concerned about the gender of a Star Wars Astromech. And that’s when I decided to pitch in on the debate, haha. It’s no secret that I adore strong female characters and that I identify stronger with female characters as well,so I chose the “she’s a girl” side.

I still like to think BB is female. She’s round and cute and shows more expression than R2 and since The Force Awakens is big on female characters (there were some unnamed female Stormtroopers, awesome!) I like thinking BB is one of them as well. But in the end it is a very silly issue that doesn’t matter too much, BB is a droid!

The only Astromechs that I know of that are canonically confirmed female are Obi Wan’s red R4 in the prequels and the pink R2-KT that makes a cameo in The Force Awakens and was built in honor of a little girl that died of cancer a long while ago.
