How was EQG?

Opinions and spoilers after the break.

The cinema was pretty much empty, besides me and Callisto there was a group of four late teens, all four obviously bronies, one lone stereotypical neckbeard in the corner, and some young girls, two of them accompanied by their fathers. I’m pretty sure at least one of them was a brony, he took pictures of the MLP sign in front of the theater and stuff.

The movie kinda felt a bit pointless. But I liked it! The whole premise just was… strange and pointless. As were some scenes. Luna and Twi with the faked pictures, Sailor Moon Transformations, why is Sunset Shimmer a Demon now, Rainbow Dash playing soccer against Twi (which was a very cute scene, but… whyyy?), etc all felt really pointless.

I liked the whole beginning, hearing Pinkie’s high pitched voice in a theater was a bit painful, though. Other than that the beginning and the intro were really exciting and it felt nice, knowing that I’m watching ponies on the big screen. I really liked that Rainbow and the rest of the gang were all “We’re coming with you!“ and I’m glad they had a reason for why they weren’t allowed to accompany Twi.

Speaking of Twi, her flying and having trouble with random wingboners in bed was adorable.

The human world was for the most part okay. Some really, really cute and funny scenes, especially everything involving Pinkie and AJ. The character models were kinda hit and miss, though. Some were really cute, like the mane six, the CMC, Big Mac, Trixie, etc. Others I thought were really ugly and off, like Celestia and Luna or Cheerilee.

I liked that they showed it so much that Twi hat problems adjusting and handling stuff in her new form. And they didn’t only play it for laughs, but it was a valid plot point. That was nice. And cute.

I really liked the songs, too. Especially the one in the cafeteria. Or the one where they’re cleaning out the hall. AJ carrying the table without problems while the two guys had difficulties was awesome, btw. I liked how they role-reversed the usual “oh, girls need help with physical labor” trope! Oh and Pinkie with her hunches was awesome.

Why exactly were Snips and Snails goons now, tho? And what was up with that whole ending battle thing going on?

But yeah! Cute scenes, funny scenes, great songs and sadly a lot of pointless stuff and missed opportunities. Still, I liked it and I’m definitely gonna get the DVD/Bluray once it’s out. But if it weren’t for ponies, it would’ve been mediocre at best.

Even Callisto, who hated the premise and disliked pretty much everything about the plot, had to laugh really hard at some of Pinkie’s scenes. So yeah!
